The Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park invites the public to participate in an Aurora “Art in the Miners Park” Loop work session on Saturday, June 4, National Trails Day from 9 a.m. to noon, meeting at the Miners Park Red Devil Trailhead located at the Ironwood Area School District’s Lorenson Baseball Field on Ayer Street.

“Talkoot” is the Finnish expression for a gathering of friends and neighbors to accomplish a task and is pronounced something like “tall coat”.

The focus of the Art in the Miners Park Trail Talkoot is to maintain and spread wood chips on the one mile trail.

The Art in the Park event in 2014 attracted over 2,000 visitors to the Miners Park to view twelve art installations by local and internationally known artists. One third of the visitors came from outside the Wakefield to Mellen to Mercer local area. Nearly $3,000 was awarded by popular vote.

This year’s Art in the Miners Park will open on the weekend prior to the 4th of July and continue through the Gogebic County Fair in August.
