Brushing out the downtown view of Hiawatha, an invasive species eradication introduction, and uncovering history at the Norrie “A” mineshaft starting at 9am, Saturday at Hiawatha Park.

Join us for our Spring Talkoot (The Finnish expression for a gathering of friends and neighbors to accomplish a task.

Saturday we’re going back to the Hiawatha/Norrie “A” mine site to clear brush between Hiawatha and the Miners Mural and clear invasive species at the site of the Norrie “A” mineshaft.

An introduction to invasive species identification and non-chemical erradication will take place at 9am at the Hiawatha Park’s parking lot.

The Norrie Amateur Sports Club, Inc. and the Friends of the Miners Memorial Heritage Park are working together on this talkoot to clean up Burma Road.

Other possible projects include joining with other community organizations to plant trees; pick up trash & and replace divots on Burma Road from Randa Field to the Skateboard Park.

The Friends of the Miners Park will provide a hamburger & brat cookout, buns & chips, water & soda at noon for volunteers. Volunteers are asked to bring along a salad or dessert to share.

The Friends of the Miners Park will also have trash bags; a few clippers, loppers, shovels and brooms available.

Volunteers are also asked to bring along gloves and lawn & garden equipment they would like to use during this talkoot (pronounced something like “tall coat”).

Experienced folks are also invited to bring along their metal detectors and chainsaws.
